For this week’s roundup, I collected some resources I cited in last week’s newsletter on Goal Setting & North Star Metrics. I hope you enjoy diving deeper into this topic!

As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, the E-Myth framework was pivotal for changing the way I viewed goal-setting early in my career. The E-Myth website has lots of great free resources for exploring this business operating strategy. I also highly recommend The E-Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber.

Another framework I referenced in Goal Setting and North Start Metrics, Part One is the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). The EOS website has a ton of free resources to help learn the system, including videos, podcasts, free tools and ebooks, and more.

If you’re curious about the strategic plan template I referenced in the newsletter, check out this video. Verne Harnish takes you through how to use his One Page Strategic Plan, and the link includes a strategic plan document. We’ve used a modified version of this for goal-setting in my companies since Theranest.

Lastly, I recommend this TED Talk by John Doerr, author of Measure What Matters. John’s book is a classic on Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), and this talk really gets at the heart of why thinking intentionally about your goal-setting process is so important.

On a personal note, I had the opportunity to attend the US Open this past weekend and it was truly inspiring. The tenacity of each athlete is a reminder of the power of grit and discipline. Check out the moment that Carlos Alcaraz won — it was amazing.
