Since last week’s post was a feature from the HVL blog, I’ve decided to share some of the other recent posts that you may find insightful.

We’ve had two Birmingham entrepreneurs write guest posts on the blog in the past few weeks. Kim Lee, the owner of Forge, shared her story of founding her own coworking space, including the biggest challenges and insights.

Surround yourself with people who are smarter and wiser than you. I knew from the very beginning that in order for Forge to be successful, I was going to need wisdom and advice from others.

Matt Pierce of Immediate shared what he learned about failure as a startup founder.

I look at mistakes on your startup growth journey not as true failures, but as opportunities to learn and grow. If you take this approach to each misstep then your organization and team will ultimately be better off in the long run.

Both local entrepreneurs have a lot of wisdom to share and I recommend both stories.

Earlier this fall, I wrote about when to kill your startup idea. This article is particularly relevant if you haven’t started building yet. It should offer some insight into how to iterate and validate your idea.

You don’t want to begin by only asking about the problem your idea solves, because it can magnify it and make it seem like the biggest or one of the biggest problems they face. You need to find the position of your idea in their overall problem stack.
In order to iterate successfully, you need a clear picture of the problems faced by your target group and how big they are.

HVL’s Director of Product Delivery, Trevor Newberry, wrote a great piece on the importance of the MVP. This is relevant to technical and non-technical founders alike. There are some helpful real-world examples of MVPs and different processes of developing them. Use those to put your own strategy into action.

Lastly, with Thanksgiving coming up, I just want to take a moment to say how grateful I am for my teams at HVL, Copysmith, and beyond. Working with such great people makes the grind worth it.
