The Tuesday Roundup
For this week’s roundup, I’m including some further content and speaking engagements that relate to last week’s post about decision making.
If your mission to become a data-driven decision maker has led you to question whether you should stick with your idea, you might be interested in my HVL blog post from last week: “When to kill your idea.”
“Your early discovery conversations should reveal if a solution to their problem is a “nice-to-have” or “must-have.” If people give you better solutions to the problem than the ones you’ve presented, listen and improve upon your idea.
On the other hand, if people give you solutions that aren’t ideal but are something they would keep using, you might have a problem, especially if you get this feedback from multiple conversations. That response tells you there’s not enough pain for them to switch from their current solution and use what you’re building. In this case, you won’t be successful trying to force your new solution on them.”
Last week, I had the opportunity to participate in gener8tor and Prosper Birmingham’s OnRamp Healthcare Conference. My friend Roy S. Johnson and I had a conversation about my story, the future of tech, and the ideal startup founder. Paid subscribers can look forward to a recording of this in their inbox in the coming weeks.
“Humble yourself in front of the data…the humble founder is more likely to succeed.”
Lastly, I wanted to include an older article from the Birmingham Times that recaps the “founder story” I gave to the Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator. Getting to speak to groups of founders is one of my favorite things, and this recap has some great examples of the advice I often give.
“Find a way to build quality products and your brand. You have to have this experiment iteration. In doing that you find when something works; then you double down on it.”
As always, you can follow the Let’s Build Twitter account here for more updates throughout the week. I also share thoughts and updates on my personal Twitter.
