The Tuesday Roundup
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It’s been a while since I collected my own content from around the internet, so today’s Roundup will do just that.
I’m grateful to have been included with my friends Bolaji Kuyoki and Stephen Odaibo in the Fall/Winter edition of my alma mater UAB’s magazine. In the article, I share my story of immigrating from Lagos to Birmingham. I got the chance to express the “why” behind what I do and how that “why” has developed from UAB to Theranest to HVL and beyond.
My fundamental belief is that entrepreneurship is a great force for good in the world. Economic empowerment is a really powerful answer to a lot of the problems we face in society – either by founding companies or being part of them. The next generation is better for it.
I’ve been upping my Twitter activity over the past few weeks. Like I discussed in my Building a Learning Town Square post, Twitter has been one of my favorite ways to learn from others. I’ve been enjoying interacting with those I learn from and sharing some of my own thoughts as well.

Last month, I got the opportunity to speak to students at Miles College as a part of the President’s Speaker Series. I shared my story of building and selling Theranest. Speaking with students is a unique opportunity to answer questions from future entrepreneurs and offer guidance from my experience. You can watch the full recording here.
We’re coming up on the end of 2022, and there are only a few newsletters left. I wanted to give a little preview of the remaining topics I’ll be writing on. There will be no Thursday newsletter this week, but next week, I’m offering what I have seen to be the four most important principles for growth. In the weeks to follow, I’ll give insights into handling the transition from individual contributor to founder, as that’s the change many first-time founders will experience. I’ll be closing out the year with a list of the top 10 resources I’ve used in building my companies this year.
We’re busy planning for 2023 here at HVL. Two weeks ago, our leadership team headed out of town for three days of strategic planning. We took a break from our planning to enjoy the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot.
Copysmith’s all-day strategic planning session is coming up soon, and I’m also meeting with each of our EIRs to do 2023 planning. This is a busy but exciting time of year.
That’s all for this week’s roundup. Let me know what you think here or on Twitter.
