The Tuesday Roundup
Last week, the HVL team had its quarterly Summit. The Summit is three days of in-person strategy sessions, external speakers, and some team-building fun. We always come out of them a more unified, focused team, and this quarter’s session was no different. This quarter, we focused heavily on growth — both for ourselves and our companies. For the Tuesday Roundup this week, I’m gathering some of my favorite materials on growth.
Elena Verna is one of my go-to sources on growth. In one of our growth workshops, we used Elena’s “5 Laws of Growth” to frame our conversation. For a great overview of her perspective on product-led growth, I recommend this podcast with Lenny Rachitsky (the author of one of my favorite newsletters, Lenny’s Newsletter).
If you’re specifically interested in growth marketing, Demand Curve is a great place to go. They offer a paid course if you want to do a serious deep dive, but they also have an abundance of free resources on their website. Their playbooks are a fantastic resource if you’re looking for insight on a specific topics related to growth, like Product Hunt or SEO.
Reforge is also a great resource with an entire growth series. You need to apply for membership but then you have access to their live courses, content, and community. A few folks at HVL have taken their courses and gone on to share their learnings with the team.
Speaking of Reforge, Adam Fishman—an EIR there who has worked at Imperfect Foods, Patreon, and Lyft—is another source of growth knowledge. He recently started his own newsletter where he also tackles product and culture issues.
Kyle Poyar, Operating Partner at OpenView, also has a newsletter worth subscribing to. He talks specifically about product-led growth, go-to-market strategy, and more. If you want quick summaries of his writings, be sure to follow him on Twitter.
Lastly, if you want to pick up some good books on growth, check out Traction by Gabriel Weinberg and Justin Mares and Hacking Growth by Sean Ellis and Morgan Brown. Our lead team at HVL recently read these two, and they’re both informing how we approach growth in the coming quarter. They contain great case studies and actionable strategies to prioritize strategic growth at all stages of your company.
Thanks for coming along for this week’s edition of the Tuesday Roundup. If you want to hear more about the HVL Summit, keep an eye on our blog for a Q3 Summit recap. As always, let me know what you thought of this week’s newsletter on Twitter or right here on Substack.
