Hello, and welcome to the first edition of the Let’s Build newsletter!
I’m Shegun Otulana, the author behind Let’s Build. I’ve spent nearly two decades working in early stage startups as a founder and investor. Just one year after graduating college, I founded my very first company, Zertis Technologies. After Zertis, I founded TheraNest, which grew into Therapy Brands. When Therapy Brands successfully sold for north of a billion dollars in 2021, I established Harmony Venture Labs (HVL), a venture studio that owns and operates a family of technology companies. I now serve as HVL’s CEO, as well as the CEO of Copysmith AI, a startup that uses AI for content generation.
As a founder, investor and advisor, I’ve experienced both success and failure. I’ve taken risks that paid off and risks that didn’t work out. I also know how hard it can feel to balance building a business with your values. I’m not just a founder – I’m also a husband and a dad with four lively children. Family is the most important thing to me, and I believe founders don’t have to sacrifice their core values to have success.
Building companies has taught me more than I could have ever anticipated – and I learned a lot of lessons the hard way. Sharing what I’ve learned with my team is one of the best parts of my job. I’m passionate about talking about startups and company building, and I want to take these conversations outside of the office. That’s where the Let’s Build newsletter comes in.
My hope is that I can use my experience to help you be a better founder and leader. We’ll dive deep into the topics that are most relevant to the launching and growing of businesses, finding product-market fit, creating a healthy culture, and more. We’ll hear from founders who have experienced great success and founders in the thick of 0 to 1 building. Together, we’ll take on the challenge of building something great.
Thanks for joining me on this journey. I’m glad you’re here!
Thank you for being so generous with your time, Shegun. I am very excited about this opportunity to learn more from your experience.
